What you can do to better prepare yourself for surgical treatment:
Here are measures you can take before surgery to help optimize your physical and emotional self, and to improve your immune function and ability to heal.
- If you smoke, stop now. Your primary care doctor and our support staff can assist you with this.
- Exercise by walking each day. Your goal should be walking for 20 to 30 continuous minutes daily, if approved by your primary care doctor or cardiologist.
- Eat balanced meals and get plenty of rest.
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the day of surgery.
- If you take any type of blood thinner medication, stop taking it approximately one week before your surgery.
- Plavix will need to be stopped one week prior to surgery
- Coumadin will need to be stopped one week prior to surgery
